History of the Company

The Company owes its existence to A.M. Rahim, a very senior figure in the rubber trade. He joined Henderson & Company Limited in 1921 and steadily gained the confidence of his superiors due to his dedication and astute business acumen. Over the years he learned all aspects of the Rubber trade from manufacturing to marketing. Eventually, at a time when almost all the business houses in Ceylon were owned and headed by Britishers or Europeans, A.M. Rahim created history by being appointed the first Ceylonese Managing Director of Henderson & Company Ltd., which was then the third largest exporter of rubber from Ceylon. He resigned from the Board to start his own firm A.M. Rahim & Company, in December 1964. He was supported by his sons, M.S. Rahim in Colombo, and H.I. Rahim based in the U. K.



Quality Control 

We purchase our supplies direct from plantation estates and at the auctions. Our Team regularly visits the various plantations, inspects, and supervises quality control when they produce specialized grades of Crepe and Sole Crepe rubber.

Trading Methodology 

We have an excellent Marketing Team, which makes competitive offers for any destination. Due to an open seas policy prevailing, we obtain the lowest freight rates with best transit times. This benefit is included in our prices. Prices are quoted on a day-to-day basis on either C&F (Cost and Freight), CIF or FOB ex-Colombo terms by fax, e-mail and telephone.

  
 
 
The Company quickly established an immaculate reputation and was referred to by their bankers, The Bank of Ceylon, as “An established trading house undoubted for their commitments”. 

The Company has its own modern warehousing complex outside Colombo in close proximity to almost all the freight forwarding Companies, which facilitates speedy planning and shipment of goods to any part of the world.
  
Offers are usually valid for 24 hours unless otherwise specified.

Markets

We export to Germany, U.K., France, Italy, Spain, Pakistan, India, Japan, U.S.A., Canada, Argentina, China, Taiwan and South Africa. The Company has a long-standing association with the Bata Shoe organizations in Kenya, Zimbabwe, Pakistan & Bangladesh. 



 
 
Terms of Payment

Usually by Letter of Credit but other Terms are negotiable depending on buyer-seller confidence. Our principal bankers are the Bank of Ceylon (Corporate Exports), HSBC and Habib Bank Ltd., Colombo.
