1. Look at the color and smell
See color
The color of 100% brand new extruded board should be white. The color of the extruded boards on the market is due to the addition of color masterbatch. Generally speaking, the more positive the color, the better, the color of poor quality extruded board is gray, black and dark.
Smell
The extruded board snaps off, and it smells close to the nose. After a period of air replacement (air and air replacement in the cells) of a good extruded board, it is basically tasteless after breaking.
Affected by factors such as whether the raw materials are recycled materials and whether other additives are environmentally friendly, the smell of inferior extruded boards is often very pungent.
2.Pressing effect
Extruded panels have higher requirements for compressive strength in fields such as floor heating and insulation, basement maintenance, roadbed insulation, and airport ground insulation. The compression resistance of the special extruded board for floor heating is required to be above 200KPA. XPS for highways needs to be above X250 and W300 standards. In the roof and wall insulation, the compressive requirements are relatively lower.
Therefore, when distinguishing the extruded board, it is necessary to examine the compressive strength according to the purpose.
3. Combustion performance
Extruded boards are mainly divided into B1 (flammable materials), B2 (flammable materials), and B3 (flammable materials). Flame retardant extruded board is a flame retardant added in the production of extruded board.
The most conventional flame retardant is HBCD (hexabromododecane), but HBCD will volatilize harmful substances when exposed to high temperatures, which is a regulated substance under EU REACH (see HBCD Baidu Encyclopedia). Therefore, many countries and fields have restricted the use. Due to cost issues, there is no good substitute.
Therefore, it is recommended to use B3 in some areas where the construction period is short and not easy to catch fire. The price is more favorable, safer and more environmentally friendly.
