1. The selection of the material of the mold is mainly related to the production volume. Generally, high-quality steel should be selected for large quantities, and even additional mechanical properties should be strengthened, such as quenching! If the mold wears out, the accuracy cannot be guaranteed!
2. In the design of the mold pouring system, the injection molding machine has an upper limit on the pressure speed. Generally, the injection molding machine is easy to be unstable under high pressure and high speed, so the awesome pouring system should be that the plastic can easily fill the mold cavity. From personal experience, the most difficult thing is to choose the glue point. If the glue inlet point is selected, other things are much easier!
3. The choice of shrinkage rate. Plastic heat expands and shrinks. After injection molding, the plastic is shrinking, so the size of the plastic product must be smaller than the mold size, so the mold size is made larger than the product size! How big is it? This mainly depends on the shrinkage rate of the plastic. The larger the shrinkage rate, the larger the mold size! According to the experimental data, we already have the shrinkage rate range of various plastics, and the mold designer can refer to this data to design the mold size. The specific amount depends on the designer’s experience and ability. According to my personal experience, the median value is generally adopted. The glue inlet point is larger (low pressure), smaller radially, larger laterally! The more accurate the shrinkage rate is, the easier it is to obtain a product that meets the size requirements.
Mold design requires a lot of experience. I think plastic injection molding is short of talents who understand both injection molding process and mold design!
