Plexiglass is a kind of plastic, PMMA acrylic. It's more expensive than plastic. The plastic you mean may be GPPS polystyrene. GPPS is more brittle, and its light transmittance is not as good as PMMA!

Plexiglass has good aesthetics and processability, and other plastics can hardly be replaced. More importantly, it is monopolized. In the past, there were two overseas suppliers, Lucite from the United Kingdom and Mitsubishi (raw materials) from Japan, and Lucite was purchased by Mitsubishi.

Plexiglass is plastic. You may be comparing PVC goods. As the old saying goes, rarity is more expensive and the output is different. If compared with PSF and PPO, plexiglass is still cheaper.
