Stormking Plastics is the leading brand of GRP building components to the house building and construction industry in the UK. Stormking has earned a reputation, over the last 30 years, as a company and brand that our customers can rely on – both in regard to our products and the services that we offer them. Our inspirational product range can create something for you the customer, but Stormking backs this up with independently tested production methods and strong customer support to insure that not only do we adhere to your standards, we also keep setting the standards.
Stormking Plastics was founded in 1985 by the two founding directors, Gary King and Barry Whitehall. Both directors had strong links with the building industry and had some experience with GRP.
The original workforce employed at our Pooley Lane, Polesworth site grew from under 10 to approximately 25 by 1989. Expansion was inevitable and the company bought a further factory from Doulton Ceramics in Tamworth in 1990. Further sites were bought at Wilnecote in 1996 and Amington in 1998 over the coming years.
By 1998 the organization was dispersed in and around Tamworth, but the logistics of managing an ever expanding operation was difficult fortunately in 1999 Stormking acquired a large prestigious site, once used by C&A and converted it to provide our new commercial and manufacturing base at Amington Point. In 2007 Stormking had acquired the old Bridgens distribution centre on the same site at Silica Road, Amington, giving a total capacity of over half a million square foot of production space with other facilities remaining for storage and future developments.
Stormking plastics are now the largest supplier of GRP products to the construction industry with a work force in excess of 180 and the management structure in place to support them.
The company has been working for many years to improve the structure of both management and production techniques and was awarded Investors in People status in March 2001 and continues to meet their subsequent appraisals and more recently the company was awarded BBA certification on its four main product lines.
Stormking has continually innovated production methods and its product range, with a strong emphasis on researching the best production methods and developing new products for our customers. The research and development department has spent years innovating production methods to increase efficiency, to give the customer the best products with the best service possible. This department has also innovated new products, which has not only given the customer a better choice, but has increased the production efficiency of our customers so that they also save on cost inefficiencies on site.
Stormking continues to set the standard for prefabricated G.R.P Building Products and are engaged in continually improving both methods of manufacture and compliance with the ever-changing Statutory Requirements, and this has been rewarded with its management systems meeting the ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and CHAS standards.
