Norplex Micarta

Norplex-Micarta is a manufacturer and marketer of thermoset composites used in laminate flooring, mechanical applications, conveyor and sorting systems and bank security systems. The company was founded in 1945 as Northern Plastics in La Crosse, Wis. It originally manufactured plastic rowboats, bread trays and toilet seats. In 1949, the firm changed its product line to industrial laminated plastics. Universal Oil Products Company purchased Northern Plastics in 1965, and between 1969 and 1974, the company expanded nationally and internationally. In 1978, the company was purchased by Signal and renamed Norplex. In August 1996, the Postville, Iowa, facility and the Industrial laminates business was sold, and ILNorplex was incorporated in the state of Iowa as a private company.
